‘The Bachelor’ Episode 3 Recap: Wrestling, Dogs & *Lots* of Making Out
*Warning: Spoilers ahead*
Last week on The Bachelor, Arie Luyendyk Jr. kicked off the first dates of the season while tempers flared back at the mansion as the reality of dating the same man set in. Here’s what went down during tonight’s episode.
Season 22, episode three begins with the 18 women sitting on the couch of the Bachelor mansion when (dun dun dun) Chris Harrison casually strolls in with a group date card for Marikh, Maquel, Jacqueline, Krystal, Tia, Lauren B., Bibiana and Bekah. This time, Luyendyk Jr. is taking the women on a—you guessed it—competition-style wrestling date.
When the group arrives at the arena, they are greeted by emcee Harrison, who explains they will partake in a live wrestling match. After receiving advice from two of the O.G. Gorgeous Ladies of Wrestling (GLOW), Ursula Hayden and Angelina Altishin, it’s time to get down to business.
But before they do, they need to choose personas to embody in the ring. After shoveling through super over-the-top getups, the ladies are ready for battle.
Suddenly, Kenny “Pretty Boy Pit Bull” King from Rachel Lindsay’s season of The Bachelorette, enters the ring to show them how it’s done. His contender? None other than Luyendyk Jr.
At long last, it’s the women’s turn to duke it out. While there is no denying that they all deserve an A for effort, Maquel undoubtedly wins the award for “Most Dedicated.”
Later that night, Krystal is the first person to steal Luyendyk Jr. away, and the women are not happy about it. When Bibiana sits down with the Bachelor, she doesn’t hold back her opinion on Krystal’s, er, inability to share. But Luyendyk Jr. is quick to change the subject and remind her that they have only so much time to talk. Awkward.
After several brief conversations and a seriously intense make-out sesh with Bekah, Luyendyk Jr. gives her the group date rosef (shocker!).
Back at the mansion, another date card appears, and it’s addressed to—drumroll, please—Lauren S.
Lauren S. is chauffeured in a limo (natch) to meet Luyendyk Jr., who explains they’re flying via private plane to Napa Valley for a day of wine tasting. We don’t blame the guy for arranging a booze-fueled date after last night’s group festivities.
After several glasses of wine and a romantic stroll through the vineyards, they bond over early bedtimes and cardigan sweaters (you know, important stuff) before sitting down for dinner. Lauren S. opens up about her past relationships and shares enough about her amazing family life to convince Luyendyk Jr. that she should go home. Three down, one to go (no offense, Lauren S.).
Meanwhile at the mansion, the third and final group date card arrives for Ashley, Becca K., Brittany, Jenna, Caroline, Annaliese and Chelsea. Little do they know, they’re in for a real treat.
On the date, Luyendyk Jr. introduces the women to his dog before revealing the day’s itinerary. Cue The Dynamo Dogs, a group of performing canines.
Yep, the ladies are teaming up with a group of dogs for a live, one-time-only performance of “Arie’s Amazing Acrodogs,” which is basically a series of acts featuring the women attempting (and failing) to get The Dynamo Dogs to do tricks. The fact that Harrison and Fred Willard (Best in Show) are commentators is just icing on the cake.
To no surprise, Chelsea is the first person to steal Luyendyk Jr. away later that night. After gushing over how “strong” their connection is, she pretty much tells him everything he wants to hear in terms of their future.
Meanwhile, Annaliese is growing worried about her one-on-one time with Luyendyk Jr. But when she finally sits down to talk to him, she completely blanks and ends up awkwardly giggling until Chelsea swoops in for her second chat of the night.
After reconnecting with Becca K. for the first time since their one-on-one date, Luyendyk Jr. addresses the elephant in the room and gives the date rose to Chelsea. Welp.
At the cocktail party, Bibiana is (yet again) pissed about her lack of time with Luyendyk Jr, who is making connections elsewhere.
Outside, Luyendyk Jr. leads Lauren B. over to a telescope, peers at the stars and pulls her in for a steamy kiss. When Bibiana awkwardly approaches mid–make out, Luyendyk Jr. shoos her away, asking for a few more minutes with Lauren B. Girl can’t catch a break.
Luyendyk Jr. then chats with Annaliese, who is just beginning to open up about her feelings when he tells her he’s not quite “there” yet.
Later that night, Annaliese confronts him about their conversation. After, like, no thought, Luyendyk Jr. decides he sees no future with her and sends her home on the spot.
At the rose ceremony, he hands out roses to everyone but Bibiana.
Now this is getting good.
