Similar to the original music video, the new version draws inspiration from several classic movies, like Mean Girls and Bring It On. The clip begins with a series of confession-like video tapes, featuring students talking about Grande’s new fragrance.
“Supposedly she uses juicy raspberries in it, so I’ve only been eating juicy raspberries for months so my breast milk will taste like her perfume smells,” one girl says.
To which another student responds, “Rumor is she put part of her ponytail in it.”
Toward the end, the “Side to Side” singer even makes fun of herself as she chops her signature ponytail, saying, “Honestly, I’m not the biggest Ariana Grande fan, but I do hear the new fragrance is somewhat promising.”
Of course, it’s important to point out that Grande gave herself a very minor trim—not an actual haircut. Still, we applaud the fact that she went there.
The original “Thank U, Next” music video premiered back in November 2018 and featured several familiar faces, including Mean Girls stars Jonathan Bennett (Aaron Samuels) and Stefanie Drummond (Bethany).
Phew, that was close.
