Amy Schumer is pressing pause on stand-up comedy to make her Broadway debut in Steve Martin’s four-person show, Meteor Shower, scheduled to hit NYC’s Booth Theater in late November.
Meteor Shower takes place in 1993 over one bizarre night in Ojai, California. A husband and wife (Alan Tudyk and Schumer) invite another couple (Laura Benanti and Keegan-Michael Key) over for dinner, cocktails, warm conversation and celestial observations, but when things take a turn for the worst, tempers flare, sparks fly—literally—and hilarity ensues.
The comedy originally premiered last fall at San Diego’s Old Globe Theater with Jenna Fischer (The Office) playing the lead role. Martin knew he needed to attach another A-list name if there was any chance of pushing the show through to New York’s Broadway scene. He approached Schumer at a house party and asked her to read the script. The comedian, who once performed in a production of Martin’s Picasso at the Lapin Agile, agreed, and the rest is history.
Coming soon to a Broadway stage near you: Amy Schumer and her unfiltered mouth. This is going to be so good.
