For us dog lovers, it’s no small secret that we’d do anything in our power to make our pooch happy. Buy a high-end doggie mattress? Of course. Invest in a gold see-through crate fit for King Rufus? Why not? Have Sarah Jessica Barker be the star of our wedding? We wouldn’t have it any other way.
So when we heard Amazon just launched an audiobook series—designed for dogs—from dog whisperer himself, Cesar Millan, we didn’t think twice.
The Audible series contains over 350,000 audiobooks, from Pride & Prejudice to A Dog’s Purpose, all designed to calm your pooch and make him less likely to chew up your new Stan Smiths.
A study from Hartpury University in the U.K. showed that audiobooks “increase resting behavior in kenneled dogs” and “have potential as auditory enrichment,” while Millan’s own Dog Psychology Center in L.A. found that three out of four owners noticed a change in their dog’s behavior over a four-week period of listening to books on tape.
The catch? Millan says it’s best if the reader’s voice sounds similar to your own. Dog-owning spouses: Time to duke it out.
