With holiday break looming along with the threat of spending another Christmahanukwanzakah with your in-laws, a quick getaway can seem like the perfect solution…until you look at your savings account. Enter Netflix’s Amazing Hotels: Life Beyond the Lobby.
This little gem of a show, which originally aired on BBC, has been patiently waiting in our queue since spring, and boy, are we glad we finally indulged instead of dropping $896 on an impromptu trip to Cuba. Hosted by Giles Coren and Monica Galetti (who are no Mary Berry, but suffice nonetheless), the six-episode series explores some of the world’s most unique hotels from the perspective of the staff.
Safe in the comfort of their bed, viewers are transported to places like the Marina Bay Sands Hotel in Singapore, which boasts the longest rooftop infinity pool ever.
The series also visits Giraffe Manor in Kenya, where—you guessed it—giraffes mix with slightly less leggy mammals (aka humans).
There’s also a chilly stint in Sweden’s Icehotel, which as the name suggests, is constructed entirely of ice.
The best part? All this globetrotting costs nothing but a Netflix subscription.
