From the clever mind that brought us Saturday Night Live gems like Pro-Chiller Leggings and the Handmaid’s Tale and Sex and the City mashup, comes a brand-new comedy series that we can definitely relate to.
Shrill, starring Aidy Bryant, is based on Lindy West’s 2016 memoir of the same name. The six episode series centers on Annie: a wannabe journalist struggling to juggle subpar boyfriends, ailing parents and a perfectionist boss, all while being painfully aware of how unattainable body standards impact her daily life.
Bryant co-wrote the script along with West and Alexandra Rushfield (Love, Parks and Recreation). Elizabeth Banks (Pitch Perfect) and SNL creator Lorne Michaels are serving as executive producers. Lolly Adefope (The Spy Who Dumped Me), Luka Jones (Up All Night), Ian Owens (Oasis) and John Cameron Mitchell (Mozart in the Jungle) will star alongside Bryant in the upcoming show. A premiere date has yet to be announced.
Welp, this plot sounds like adulting in a nutshell.
