Adele Just Gave Fans an Unexpected Update on Her Upcoming Album (and We’ll Have to Wait a Little Longer)

Adele is known for being relatively hush-hush about her music projects, but she just gave fans a rare update on the status of her next album.

The 32-year-old singer has revealed that her fourth studio album, which was expected to drop sometime this fall, is officially...delayed.

On Saturday June 27, Adele posted an old photo on her Instagram of her 2016 performance at Glastonbury with nothing more than a smiley emoji in the caption, and excited fans were positive it was a cryptic teaser for some highly-anticipated new music. (Her last release, 25, came out five years ago.) One fan commented, “Teaser? Albums coming out today???!!!! Tell me now!!!!”

But Adele was quick to clear the air, responding to the comment, “Of course it’s not. Corona ain’t over. I’m quarantining. Wear a mask and be patient.” Don’t worry, she added a heart emoji at the end to soften the blow. It was an unexpected move, considering she only recently reappeared on social media, posting her first photo in months on her birthday.

Adele’s music update came a few days after her manager, Jonathan Dickens, told Music Weekly that the next album “isn’t coming in September, it’ll be ready when it’s ready. We’re all in the same boat, you’re doing stuff and then all of a sudden, the world stops,” he elaborated, referring to the COVID-19 pandemic. “It’ll come when it’s ready. I can’t put a date on that yet. We have music, but we’re still working.”

Welp, Adele fans, you know what they say: Anticipation makes the heart grow fonder.
