Last night, Mayor Eric Garcetti and Police Chief Charlie Beck illuminated Los Angeles City Hall with the iconic bat signal in memory of the late actor Adam West.

Hordes of fans attended the lighting ceremony (many in costume) and cheered as they watched L.A. transform into Gotham City.

The beloved West, who was 88 when he passed away last week, rose to caped fame for his portrayal of Batman in the 1960s TV series.

In an emotional tribute, Garcetti said, "Adam West taught us each one of us had a heart of gold. There will never be another Batman like Adam West and there will never be another Adam West."

Garcetti “nah-nah, nah-nah, nah-nah, nah-nah”-ed the night to a close, leading the crowd in the Batman theme song.
