One minute you’re making mac and cheese for breakfast, feeling like the king of the world…and the next, you’re mourning your brand-new jeans after an unfortunate stovetop oil splatter. What’s a less-than-graceful chef to do? Hope that you’ve got a certain grade school staple on hand, that’s what. Here’s the deal.

What you need: A stick of plain white chalk.

What you do: Rub the chalk all over the affected area and let sit for about an hour. Then throw it into the washing machine and wash and dry as usual.

Why it works: The chalk absorbs the grease while the washing machine gets rid of any residue.

Because nothing should put a damper on an otherwise delightful meal.
