The Best Way to Cut Flowers So They're Actually the Right Length

Oh hey, darling bouquet of pink peonies. How we would love to set you right up in our favorite vase. If only we knew where to cut your stems… Oh wait, there’s a super-easy way.

Step 1: Lay the vase on its side.

Step 2: Hold the flowers right above the vase--horizontally--so the tops “stick out” above the lip of the vase at just the right height. Feel free to readjust a bloom here and there to get the whole thing exactly the way you like it.

Step 3: Snip the stems right along the bottom of the vase.

Step 4: Voilà! When you turn the vase upright and place the peonies inside, they’ll pop out at just the right height.
