Show you care with an orchid
Long-lasting flowers from a Chicago institution
Roses usually flop over in a few days. You can stretch tulips for a week if you treat them right. But a potted orchid? It can bloom for months with the right amount of attention (i.e., not much).
When they need stunning flowers that last, Chicago interior designers, restaurant owners and savvy gift givers turn to Orchids by Hausermann.
In a huge greenhouse in the western suburb of Villa Park, the longtime family biz grows 400,000 orchids per year. Some are delivered to the doorsteps of local customers, and some are shipped off around the world.
A classic white Phalaeneopsis from Hausermann makes a major statement but is amazingly affordable (starting at $20 for a plant with 5 blooms), and each one is delivered with a detailed instruction card to help the recipient keep it alive. (Or you can always rely on the old ice-cube trick.)
Our four-stemmed beauty is currently at three months and counting. For us, that’s a record.
