How to Score at a Brooklyn Prop Shop Closing Sale
Hit up the final days at Film Biz Recycling
Some good news: We discovered an incredible prop house in Brooklyn with crazy-cool apartment finds.
Now the bad news: It’s going out of business.
But back to good news: You can score insane deals during its closeout sale.
Enter Film Biz Recycling.
The Gowanus treasure trove has been a place where NYC film crews could responsibly dispose of props and sets, rather than just tossing them in a dumpster (sadly, the industry norm). Film Biz Recycling re-donates many of the goods to charities and shelters and then sells off the rest (everything from antique chaise longues to wine glasses the size of your head) to the public.
It’s basically 11,000 square feet of furniture and tchotchkes you never knew you needed.
So here’s how you score said deals: The sale begins on Monday, and everything is marked down 25 percent through May 23. Then from May 25 to June 6, it’s 50 percent off. From June 8 to 13, it goes to 75 percent. And from June 15 to the last day, June 20, just name your price and take it off the shop’s hands.
For a bit of context: Film Biz normally charges about $150 for an antique chair, $100 for a side table and $225 for a sofa. So, yeah, you’re guaranteed a steal.
