If you take a quick look around the city right now, it seems like nothing?s growing. The tree branches are bare. The grass is dead.

But inside a huge old pork-packing building in the Back of the Yards neighborhood, plenty of things are alive at ?vertical farm? and artisanal food incubator The Plant--and now there?s a new way to explore the 93,000-square-foot place, too.

This Saturday from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., The Plant?s resident vendors will take part in a market that lets you shop their goods and get a behind-the-scenes look at the operation.

Go and buy fresh, raised-in-house shrimp from The Salty Prawn, basil from Greens & Gills, savory pies from Pleasant House Bakery and more.

Then join the tour group to explore the building and learn about how the products are grown and what the vendors hope to accomplish through their sustainably-minded mission. (Tickets $10)
