A Sleeper Hit
A home in the hills is transformed into a mattress shop
The hills are alive with the sound of ahhh-ing now that shoppers have a swank spot to recline in comfort. It?s the new Casper Mattress showroom, located in a midcentury home in the Hollywood Hills.
You turn off Sunset at the Chateau Marmont, go up twisting roads, then enter a yellow door marked with a ?C.? First, you?ll be wowed by the view from the wraparound windows, but then you?ll be swept off your feet when a rep shows you into the bedroom and encourages you to lie down on a king-size mattress covered in Matteo linen sheets.
Since Casper prides itself on its radically affordable prices (no middlemen, so there?s less markup) and unusual delivery (the latex-and-memory-foam mattresses come rolled in a box), we set our expectations low. But the nice, firm feel as well as the no-pressure sales approach--we were left alone in the bedroom to vibe the mattress in private--made us fans.
Rest easy: If you buy a mattress (starting at $500 for a twin), then aren?t happy in the first 100 days, the company will pick it up and give you a full refund.
