Caffeine meets power breakfast

They say breakfast is the most important meal of the day. But so is coffee, as far as we’re concerned. Luckily, you can now combine the two with a little help from blogger Jessica Merchant, who introduced us to the magic of the oatmeal latté, a genius concoction that’s liquid enough to sip yet thick and creamy enough to eat with a spoon. Here’s how to make one at home:

What you need: For one serving, you’ll need ¾ cup whole milk, ½ cup frothed milk, a dash of salt and cinnamon, ½ teaspoon vanilla extract, 1 ½ tablespoons brown sugar, 1 shot of espresso, ½ cup old-fashioned oats and a sprinkle of granola.

What you do: Combine your oats and milk in a saucepan and cook over medium-low heat. Add salt and cinnamon. Pour frothed milk into the oats mixture and stir until the oats taste creamy. Remove the saucepan from the heat and add brown sugar and vanilla extract. Pour the mixture into a mug and add the shot of espresso. Top with any leftover frothed milk and granola to taste. Now your morning can officially begin.
