From blueberries to raspberries, summer is the time to enjoy fruit. The only problem with having an abundance of fresh produce is that it tends to go bad faster than you can eat it.
So here’s the trick to making them last: You should wash them. Just hold off on washing them until right before you eat them. Not when you bring them home from the farmers' market. Or even hours before you plan on consuming them (perhaps as an afternoon snack?), but right before you plop them into your mouth.
Why? Any amount of moisture increases the likelihood of mold--even if you’ve taken the time to pat them dry.
Also, while we’re on the topic, when you do go to wash them, don’t submerge them in water. It will just spread the germs around. Instead, place them into a colander and run cold water over them. Shake out any excess water and commence eating!
