This Single Ingredient Will Take Your Gin and Tonics to the Next Level

When the cumulative stress of the week has us coiled tighter than a set of ringlet curls at a 1992 prom, there’s nothing quite like mixing up an icy-cold gin and tonic to take the edge off.

Well, what if we told you that a simple garnish tweak could make that go-to G&T taste roughly 1,000 times better? This weekend, we challenge you to swap out your citrus wedges for a slice of juicy mango. To get sciency for a sec: Both mango and juniper (the berries that give gin its flavoring) contain high levels of a flavor compound called pinene. When paired together, that sweet mango draws out the botanical taste of the gin liquor, thereby creating a perfectly balanced cocktail. Cool, right?

If you're ready to take a chance on mango, our friend Cassandra LaValle at Coco Kelley has a simple (and scrumptious) recipe for classic G&Ts with a fruity spin. Cheers, dears.
