If you’re anything like us, you probably assumed cheese fondue involved just melting up a big bowl of grated cheese, sticking some bread onto skewers and calling it a day. Boy, were we wrong. Turns out the secret to achieving that ooey-gooey goodness involves much more than just good cheese. Here, our recipe for the most delicious fondue you’ve ever tasted.
What You Need:
- 1 garlic clove
- 2 cups grated Gruyère
- 2 cups finely chopped Swiss cheese
- 2 tablespoons cornstarch
- 1 cup dry white wine
- Juice from one lemon wedge
- 1 tablespoon rum
- 1 teaspoon dry mustard
- A pinch of nutmeg
- Assorted pieces of bread, apple and veggies for dipping
Step 1: Rub the garlic clove along the sides of the fondue pot. (This will prevent sticking and enhance the flavor.)
Step 2: Add the Gruyère, Swiss and cornstarch to a large bowl and mix until well combined.
Step 3: Pour the white wine and lemon juice into the fondue pot, then turn on the burner to heat the mixture.
Step 4: Gradually add the cheese and cornstarch mixture to the pot, stirring continuously until the mixture is smooth.
Step 5: Continue to stir as you add the rum, dry mustard and nutmeg.
Step 6: Skewer a piece of bread, apple or carrot and start dipping. (Yum.)
