Real estate. Hamilton. Eavesdropping on other people’s Tinder dates. There are a lot of things that bring out the obsessiveness in New Yorkers, but brunch might be at the top of the list. (See: two-hour waits at Sadelle’s.) And while we’ll admit the meal probably inspires as many eye rolls as Instagrams, it’s also hard to argue with a sizzling skillet of shakshuka or some challah French toast.
So it was only a matter of time before we were due for a celebration of all things brunch: BrunchCon arrives at Grand Prospect Hall on March 26. The fest promises bites from 50 NYC restaurants, and so far the roster includes the beloved Café Habana, Vietnamese eatery Bricolage and Soho hot spot Chalk Point Kitchen. In other words, you’ll find something for brunch fiends of all stripes, whether you skew sweet or savory, classic or creative.
Along with food, there’ll be an open mimosa bar (yesss), a dimly-lit “hangover lounge” and—wait for it—brunch speed dating. We can only assume that nothing sparks a romantic connection like a shared love of eggs Benedict or a debate on the merits of the “pancakes for the table” strategy. (We’re firmly in favor of it, for the record.)
Tickets are on sale for $55 (the price goes up to $60 on February 15), and we’ll refrain from making a “selling like hotcakes” joke here…but you get the idea. Now if you’ll excuse us, we think our name finally got called at Buttermilk Channel.
