The 6 Best Tacos in the Hamptons
Fact: There’s never a bad time for tacos. With fillings ranging from vegetarian to tuna poke to octopus, it’s impossible to get bored. Go ahead and make every day Taco Tuesday at these six Hamptons spots.
1. Tuna Poke Tacos at Bostwick’s Chowder House
What’s better than a poke bowl? Poke tacos. Bostwick’s rendition features sesame-marinated raw tuna, mango salsa and wasabi cucumber sauce on grilled flour tortillas.
277 Pantigo Rd, East Hampton; 631-324-1111 or bostwickschowderhouse.com
2. Fish Tacos at Highway Restaurant & Bar
To bite into Highway Restaurant’s fish tacos with crispy rock shrimp, charred tomato salsa, avocado and lime is to be transported to a beach shack in the Bahamas.
290 Montauk Hwy.; East Hampton; 631-527-5372 or highwayrestaurant.com
3. Soft Homemade Corn Tacos at La Fondita
This taco joint is a must-stop after an Amagansett beach day. Not only are the soft, homemade corn tortillas—stuffed with your choice of veggies, fish, pork, chicken or beef—some of the best on the East End, but at less than $5 per taco, they’re also a steal.
74 Montauk Hwy.; Amagansett; 631-267-8800 or lafondita.net
4. Marinated Pork Hard Shell Tacos at La Hacienda
Hard shell tacos might not be authentic Mexican cuisine, but sometimes they just hit the spot—and when the craving strikes, we head to La Hacienda. The Southampton counter-service spot makes a marinated pork taco with just the right amount of spice. (You can also order it on a soft tortilla, but we always go for the crunch.)
48 Jagger Lane, Southampton; 631-287-6814 or lahaciendasouthampton.com
5. Octopus Taco at Almond
Sometimes you want tacos from a stand at the side of the road, and other times you want to be fancy (but still want tacos). Say hello to Almond’s octopus taco. The Bridgehampton bistro’s upscale twist on the beach staple comes with black bean miso and bok choy kimchi.
1 Ocean Rd, Bridgehampton; 631-537-5665 or almondrestaurant.com
6. Chicken Tacos at Damark’s Market
If you like your tacos to bring the heat, you’ll love the chicken tacos at this one-stop shop. The tacos themselves, served on soft tortillas with moist, flavorful chicken, are fairly standard, but the house-made hot sauce is what really seals the deal and has us taking regular day trips to Springs to visit the 70-year-old market.
331 Three Mile Harbor Rd., East Hampton; 631-324-0691 or damarksmarket.com
