San Francisco has no shortage of small-batch ice cream shops, but the old guard has some stiff competition now. SONOMA ROSÉ ICE CREAM AT SMITTEN
Ice cream infused with rosé wine—now that’s something to get excited about. Smitten teamed up with Scribe Winery and pastry chef Emily Luchetti (of Big Night Restaurant Group) to create this subtle and sophisticated seasonal flavor. You can get it all summer long at Smitten locations and on the dessert menu at Petit Marlowe.

CHIMNEY CONE AT GARDEN CREAMERY
Originally a Hungarian street treat, the churro-like cone has been an Instagram celebrity since it debuted earlier this year. It’s only available for a few hours every Saturday, so plan ahead and start daydreaming about scoops of Thai tea and coconut pandan now.

CHOCOLATE DATE SHAKE AT SALT & STRAW
It’s one of August’s five farmers’ market flavors exclusive to the San Francisco scoop shop. The sweetness of dates balances out the bitterness of dark chocolate in a combo perfect for Salt & Straw’s freshly made waffle cones.

ARTISANAL GELATO AT COLETTA CRUISER
The SoMa scoop shop that churns out silky, sweet gelato made and pasteurized on site just opened a second location in the Mission. The Coletta Cruiser, a bike turned ice cream stand, has popped up at Harrington Galleries on Valencia and is serving up rotating flavors in house-made cones. The pistachio with Maldon sea salt will change how you think of pistachio ice cream.
