This Wine Store Lets You Taste the Goods Before You Buy
Only six samples per visit, Lucille.

Buying a new wine is like going on a blind date: Although it could be great, there’s an equal chance it could completely suck and ruin your night. Take the guesswork out of the process with Taste Wine Company, an NYC start-up that lets you taste and rank a selection of wines--all with the help of a handy app--before you take out your credit card.

Step 1: Download the free Taste Wine Company app and take the Taste Test. Answer a series of seemingly unrelated questions (“Which do you prefer: Rock concerts or libraries? Mushroom barley or cream of corn soup?”) to determine your Taste Type. We got “Bold Taster,” which is right on the money.

Step 2: Stop by Taste Wine Company headquarters in the East Village to try wines tailored to your type. The bottles are stored in dispensers, so you can walk up and down the aisles trying wine to your heart’s content (well, kinda--the store’s limit is six tastes per visit).

Step 3: Scan the barcode of each wine you taste to rank and review it on TWC’s app. The more wines you review, the more personalized your recommendations will be in the future. Salute!
