Fact: In summertime, there’s no better reminder of why we live in Chicago than the view from the J. Parker rooftop bar on the 13th floor of Hotel Lincoln. Iconic skyscrapers, beaches, the lake, lush gardens, the zoo, the farmers’ market--it’s all right there.
Taking in that view is now a year-round pursuit thanks to a just-installed retractable glass roof over the bar’s main seating area.
The dome makes a warm, protected cocktail-lounge-slash-snow-globe out of the spot, which has updated its food and drink menu, overseen by chef Paul Virant (Perennial Virant), to match the season.
Order a bowl of beef-shank chili with smoked cheddar and crème fraîche, or an Out of Nowhere cocktail--tequila, cocoa liqueur, chile liqueur, coffee and whipped cream.
Then sit back and toast to making it through the fifth-biggest Chicago blizzaster on record.
