An early summit with your boss, meetings all day, a grueling spin class instead of lunch--it’s only Tuesday, but wow, you could use a cocktail tonight.
Now you can whip up craft cocktails at home without having to track down the esoteric ingredients first (“can anyone point me to the celery bitters?”), thanks to Cocktail Courier.
On the company’s website, start by browsing drinks dreamed up by some of Chicago’s top bartenders. Find one that whets your whistle, place your order and choose a day and delivery time frame.
A sturdy cardboard box will arrive at your door, and inside you’ll find every ingredient you need, portioned out just right, plus simple directions. (Kits contain supplies for 4 to 12 drinks; per-drink prices range from $7 to $10.)
We test-sipped the Pinup Sailor Daiquiri, a tangy rum drink by mixologist Liz Pearce of the new River North spot The Drifter. The supplies in our kit were things we never would have had the patience to track down at Binny’s--think jalapeño simple syrup and pamplemousse liqueur--and the result was a cocktail far more sophisticated than our usual G&T.
And that part about adding two dashes of celery bitters at the end? Couldn’t have been simpler.
