Chances are you’ve come across at least a few drink recipes that call for simple syrup. While the name sounds fancy, this mixture is just sugar and water. It’s easy to make, but a few pointers never hurt.

How to Make Simple Syrup

Combine equal parts sugar and water in a saucepan (say, 2 cups sugar and 2 cups water). Bring the mixture to a boil over medium-high heat and stir until the sugar has dissolved. Remove from heat. Let cool completely before using. Pour any leftover liquid into a Mason jar and store up to two months in the refrigerator.
