Given that we’ve spent so much of our time in quarantine, a lot of us have been practically living in our loungewear—and celebrity stylist Zerina Akers knows the feeling all too well.
While chatting with PureWow about all things fashion, the costume designer and Black Owned Everything owner revealed that her favorite outfit to wear right now is—you guessed it—her cozy sweatsuit.
“I created the perfect sweatsuit,” Akers said. “I haven’t taken it off. All of my friends are, like, screaming at me because I’m probably on my tenth day wearing it.”
Aside from giving us a peak into her quarantine style, Akers, who has worked with stars like Beyoncé and Niecy Nash, also shared how she goes about selecting brands for Black Owned Everything, a platform that aims to amplify and empower a community of Black-owned brands. She explained, “I just find things that I like and that are interesting to the eye, from brands that are notable and even small. I find it more important to really blur the lines of luxury and take brands you really wouldn’t have paid much attention to, had you come across their page on your own.”
With regards to her partnership with Macy’s, which recently launched a limited-edition collaboration called Icons Of Style, Akers spoke about her hopes of inspiring other Black women. She said, “I felt it was important to just be a Black girl representing for other Black girls, and for them to see what’s possible, to see someone that looks like them in the space.”
Yep, we can totally see why Bey has this style icon in her corner.
