There’s Never Been a Better Time to Wear a Workout Jumpsuit

According to Instagram, everyone I know is using quarantine to try something new. For some, that looks like baking sourdough bread from scratch. Others are simply trying to remove their acrylics without running their natural nails. I, on the other hand, am simply wearing a workout jumpsuit for the very first time.

Sometimes called an onesie, a catsuit, unitard or a one-piece, the short of it is that this is one piece of spandex that’s an entire outfit—removing the requirement for an actual top, pants and sometimes even a sports bra. While I would consider myself to be pretty confident with my body, I’ve never felt comfortable enough to try out a workout jumpsuit. I often wondered, how will my belly look? And will my boobs even fit? Now that I’m surrounded by only my (mostly) judgment-free family members and I admittedly wear leggings 99% of the time, it felt like the time to test this piece out.

And, it turns out, I love wearing a workout jumpsuit. It feels like a soft, cozy and supportive hug, just like a huge sports bra for my whole body. I never have to tug up a waistband during a set of burpees and I don’t have to worry about a tee or tank riding up during downward dog. And if someone doesn’t like how my thighs or tummy look in this, well, I’ve realized that’s their problem entirely. Here, nine jumpsuits I’d suggest you try out while isolating at home.

Lizzo Just Wore a $90 Unitard to Workout…And Now We Want One

Outdoor Voices

1. Outdoor Voices Freeform Unitard In Charcoal

If this jumpsuit is good enough for Lizzo, then it’s definitely good enough for me. Featuring a built-in shelf bra and a super flattering v-neck, this one looks super cute with any type of sports bra layered under it (ya know, if you’re like me and always need extra support). Plus, the compression fabric is thick enough to be forgiving around trouble areas while still letting your skin breathe.

2. Live The Process Cutout Colorblock Jumpsuit

This one-piece gives the illusion of a sports bra and legging combo—thanks to a super flattering cutout—but it’s actually an all-in-one that’s soft to the touch. The cutout is located at your third chakra, should you want to impress your Zoom yoga class with that fact.

Bandier

3. Koral Jet Jumpsuit

Made from Koral’s super sleek signature material, this jumpsuit is like a sweat-friendly mullet: The tank front is all business, while the low-cut back is all party (especially if said party involves dance cardio).

BUY IT ($158; $109)

Revolve

4. Lna Leopard Onesie

Okay, while this onesie does remind us of Tiger King’s Carole Baskin, it’s also the only thing that could actually get us excited to do a HIIT class on a Saturday afternoon.

Revolve

5. X Fp Movement First Place Onesie

You know how all the style experts tell you to wear items that draw the eye to the smallest part of your waist? That’s exactly what this Free People number does. The band whittles your torso, so you can finally have the hourglass shape of your dreams.

Nike

6. Nike Yoga Luxe Infinalon Jumpsuit

Nike gets it: Sometimes the built-in shelf bra just isn’t enough. That’s why we love that this yoga-friendly compression jumpsuit is styled on their site with a racerback sports bra, so you can see exactly how it will look on you. And yeah, we can confirm it does look super cute with straps peeking out.

Revolve

7. Gigi C Sarah Catsuit

This zip-front, open back style is called a catsuit. And rightly so. It serves up so much attitude, plus a slew of sultry peek-a-boo cutouts down the front. So if you’re looking to channel a modern-day Bond girl, while working from your couch, this is the one-piece for you.

Aritzia

8. Aritzia Divinity Jumpsuit

The vertical and horizontal seams on this jumpsuit meet at the waist, creating a totally streamlined silhouette. Simple spaghetti straps and a deep black hue make this an instant loungewear classic—even if your daily routine currently consists of getting out of bed and sitting at the kitchen table.

Free People

9. Gigi C Maxine Romper

More of a shorts gal? Gigi C’s got you covered with this sky blue number. While it will show off plenty of leg, the neckline is relatively modest, so you won’t feel overexposed at all.
