Sophie, Countess of Wessex, Just Showed Us How to Wear a Puffer Coat Like a Royal

The puffer coat: It’s the bane of our fashion existence, but it’s also a necessity in cold winter weather. We’re taken stock of every puffer coat from the Moncler gown to the Amazon coat but Sophie, Countess of Wessex just upped our opinion on the chilly weather staple.

The 54-year-old countess and wife of Prince Edward visited England Hockey team’s training grounds today at Bisham Abbey National Sports Center in Marlow, England. Sophie attended alongside her 16-year-old daughter, Lady Louise Windsor, and—you guessed it—rocked a puffer coat for the occasion.

The royal mom selected a charcoal gray, knee-length coat, which she zipped nearly all the way up and cinched it at the waist with a chocolate brown leather ribbon belt. Under her coat, she donned emerald green pleated trousers and a blouse, completing the look with light gray suede Mary Jane block heels. Perhaps there is a stylish way to rock the winter essential.

During the visit, the Countess of Wessex, who is patron of England Hockey (the British version of field hockey), watched as her daughter joined in on the training for fun. Borrowing inspiration from her mom, Lady Louise wore a puffer vest.

It seems an appreciation for hockey and down fabric is something the mother daughter duo share. They were first spotted cheering on England Hockey at the Commonwealth games in Glasgow in 2014. And, in 2018, the pair watched the Hockey Women’s world Cup finals in London together and witnessed first-hand Ireland’s loss to the Netherlands.

Leave it to the royals to up the ante on cold weather dressing.
