We all have the same qualm with over-the-knee boots: Some of them just. Don’t. Stay. Up. If you’ve ever experienced the constant tug-and-stretch dance, you know it gets old really fast. That’s why we rounded up the best over-the-knee styles for every leg size and shape. Find the right fit, and you’ll forget you’re even wearing them.

The One Shoe Style That Just Won’t Quit

If You’re Petite: Try Boots With A Shorter Back Panel

If you ever thought you were too short for over-the-knee boots, we’re happy to tell you that you’re so wrong. Yes, styles with too tall of a shaft can bunch annoyingly behind your knee, but that’s why they make high-low versions. The height in the front gives you the look you’re going for, but the back sits just below your knee, making them so much easier to walk in.

If You’re Tall: Try Boots With Laces

The top of your boots might hit closer to the top of your knee than your thigh, meaning you have bunching problems of your own. This is where laces come into play: Go for a pair you can cinch up along the back, and behold as your new boots stay where they’re supposed to be.

If You Have Wide Calves: Try Slouchier Silhouettes

A lot of over-the-knee styles are cut slightly narrower in the shaft to help prevent them from sliding down. But it’s not exactly helpful if you’ve actually got some calves (thanks, SoulCycle). To ensure you can pull them on and up without reaching for the butter—kidding…kind of—look to slouchier styles that are more forgiving in the width department.

If You Have Narrow Calves: Try Elastic Panels

You could layer your thickest socks and jeans underneath your boots to keep them in place. Or you could invest in a pair with elastic panels that will contour to your legs, no matter how slim. The second option sounds better to us, too.
