One of the best ways to stay ahead of the curve on fashion trends is to keep an eye out for micro trends, or items of clothing or styling tricks that are definitely beginning to repeat everywhere you look but aren’t quite as prevalent as, say, ballet flats, Bottega Green or all things leather. And the streets of New York during Fashion Week are definitely the best place to search for these micro trends as influencers, editors and buyers descend on the city en masse to view the latest and greatest from all your favorite designers. Here, six styles we saw making the rounds during NYFW that might just prove to be the next big thing.

10 Knee-High Boot Outfits That Are Supremely Chic for 2023 (Plus 2 That Are, Sadly, Outdated)

1. Winter White Ensembles

If we had to guess, we’d say the multitude of winter white outfits on the streets of New York probably have something to do with a collective tiring of super-bright shades like Barbie pink. The creamy hue is like a palate cleanser—calming, refreshing, with an air of coziness perfect for colder months. And while there were lots of women wearing just one or two winter white pieces, we think this shade is best employed when worn from head to toe.

2. Bomber Jackets

Leather and faux leather are both trending big for 2023, but rather than being inundated with moto jackets and leather trenches, we were pleasantly surprised to see a different silhouette making the rounds: the bomber jacket. The pilot-inspired style is definitely going to continue in popularity, and is a welcome break from the usual motorcycle style. It’s also more wearable than the motocross jackets so many trend forecasters predicted would flood our Instagram feeds this year.

3. Metallic Accessories

Metallics have been predicted as a top trend for the past two years, but we’ve yet to see it really take off with the masses. But perhaps the sea of shining accessories at the New York shows is proof that the tides are about to change. Gold and silver boots and handbags in particular were spotted in droves. There were also some tops and pants, but the focus here appears to be more on accessories, and, to be honest, we’re not surprised. A gold shoulder bag is much easier to make work for day—with a winter white ensemble, with jeans and a tee, with a black suit, etc.—than a lamé midi dress. That said, if you’re feeling the metallic vibes, we say go for it with all you’ve got.

4. Pops of Bright Red

Bottega Green, a bright Kelly-adjacent shade, is still primed to be the biggest color trend of 2023, but it looks like cherry red will be a very close second. There weren’t many folks wearing head-to-toe looks in this vibrant hue (unlike green which was literally everywhere), but there were plenty of smaller pops by way of bright red flats, shoulder bags, wool scarves and sleek sweaters. These limited splashes are easier to incorporate into your existing wardrobe, especially if you tend to wear more neutral hues than bold colors or patterns.

5. Rosettes

The latest, and truly unexpected, Y2K trend revival is 3D florals. We’d seen them on the runways at Christian Dior, Prabal Gurung and Batsheva, and they were pretty prevalent during both Paris Couture Week and Copenhagen Fashion Week back in August, but we were still surprised to see it so frequently in New York. There were multiple versions of the Carrie Bradshaw-approved adornment to see, including mini rosettes on ribbon chokers, larger blooms on lapels and even knit variations woven right into the design of skirts, tops and dresses. The best way to rock this trend without looking dated, however, is with a smaller rosette pinned to your blazer, in your hair or hanging off the handle of your handbag.

6. Textured Gray Monochrome

Monochrome outfits will always be en vogue, but this month we saw a plenthora of women rocking one color in particular from head to toe: gray. And specifically gray pieces in a variety of interesting textured and finishes. Think sequin midis, cable knit sweaters, patent-leather pants and so on. The combination of so many surfaces instantly makes what could otherwise be a pretty drab hue into something wonderfully luxe and high end. This is definitely one trend we plan on copying ASAP.
