Growing up in Southern California, Kylie Rae always had a focus on one thing: sports. But in 2014, she changed course—enrolling at the Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising as an aspiring designer, chronicling her life on Instagram along the way. During her second year of school, her account took off and she went from 2,000 followers to over a million. It wasn’t long before she started getting approached by brands to model.

Now, Kylie Rae works full-time as a model, actress, entrepreneur and social media influencer across several platforms. “I am thankful to have grown up in a generation where social media can make all this possible even if you don’t fit the ‘standard look,’” she says. “I have always been super outgoing and love putting on a show, so there’s no question that I belong in front of the camera.” Here, get to know Kylie Rae.

On her perfect day in Hollywood. “I love this city because you’re basically at the center of everything so you can do whatever you want. One day, you can travel to the desert in just a couple of hours; the next day you could find yourself snowboarding in the mountains. My favorite thing to do is to check out sporting events or anything having to do with adrenaline such as skydiving, cliff jumping or bungee jumping. You name it, it can be done!”

On a beauty hack she swears by. “I get a lot of compliments on my eyelashes, but what people don’t know is that I use two—and sometimes three—different mascaras to make them appear longer and thicker.”

On something no one knows about her. “I love soccer and actually had a scholarship to go play it in college, but I turned it down to pursue my dreams in entertainment.”

On the best piece of advice she’s ever received. “Always keep a positive mind-set. This industry is competitive and cutthroat. A lot of people say negative things and try to bring you down, so it’s important to block that stuff out and just keep looking forward. It’s also important to surround yourself with people who bring out the best in you and push yourself to accomplish your goals, all while staying true to who you are.”
