Meet the photographer and illustrator who blogs her life the way she lives it

Illustrator and photographer Jade Sheldon and her husband, Cory—a marketing consultant—were both in search of a new creative outlet when they came up with the perfect idea: a website that chronicled their marriage and shared interests. “We’ve been married for five years and had teamed up on projects and supported each other’s creative endeavors before,” she says. “Endlessly Enraptured was our next step in bringing what we love to do together into one place.”

What started as a combined portfolio and online journal has developed quite a following, something that surprised Jade. “I never imagined that others would enjoy it but was thrilled to discover they did,” she says. And, as a result, work keeps continuing to pick up. “Right now, I’m working on a children’s book,” she says. “I also have a few illustration projects I’m wrapping up with brands overseas, as well as some bigger projects I will be a part of early in the summer that will involve travel and filming. There’s a lot more to come.”

On how she uncovered her passion for photography. “I took a photography class my freshman year of college and found it really interesting. I planned on continuing, but I had a professor that steered me away from it since it wasn't my major. I regret listening to her because I put my camera down for the rest of college. But at the end of school, I got really sick—and was later diagnosed with an autoimmune disorder—and feared I might not be able to graduate. This led to extreme burnout with my illustration work, but I still had a desire to create, so I picked up my camera again and started shooting.”

On the hardest part of being her own boss. “Being accountable for your own schedule, organizing projects, prioritizing professional life over personal life, bringing in new work. It can be extremely overwhelming. Luckily, I have Cory to help keep me grounded and to lean on with so many things.”

On the best advice she’s ever received. “The more you practice, the better you will get. Though I believe in natural talent, I also believe that hard work and determination in practicing your craft will ultimately get you what you want in life.”

A beauty trick she swears by. “My go-to is a bold color. A deep red or bright coral lip adds instant confidence.”

On her perfect day in Portland. “Cory and I love getting coffee or tea at either Tea Bar or Guilder, where we enjoy coffee, croissants and a good book. We’ll then wander the city and stop into some of our favorite places: The Portland Art Museum, Spartan Shop, Solabee, Wildfang and Alder & Co. We end the day by cooking dinner together and marathoning some classic television.”

On the best (and worst) parts of collaborating with her husband. “The biggest struggle we’ve faced is not always being able to see the same artistic vision. That said, being able to work with someone who knows you better than you know yourself is such a blessing. They will always have your best interest at heart, always give their best and always know when and how to push you to achieve your dreams.”
