When there’s finally a cold snap in the air, Angelenos get super-excited to put on actual layers and test-drive the latest trends. But hey, comfort is still a priority. We asked Caroline Juen of Love and Loathing Los Angeles to show us how she’ll be styling the season’s best kicks.
The Velvet Slides
These rich burgundy heels would look great with a holiday dress, natch, but the cool factor gets kicked up a notch when paired with cropped jeans and a leather jacket.
Shoes of Prey ($119)
The OTK Boots
Covered-up but still super-sexy, over-the-knee boots—like these ’70s-throwback, stacked-heel numbers—are made for a pair of shorts with an overskirt or a sheer maxi skirt and a shorter slip underneath.
Marc Fisher ($138)
The Lace-Up Bootie
A pair of beat-up short boots is so ubiquitous here that it ought to be on the city crest right next to an expired parking meter and a $20 superfood smoothie. But rather than wearing them with a pair of ripped jeans à la Sunset Boulevard rocker, try pairing them with a super-soft cardi, a velvet tank and a pair of black trousers to elevate the whole look.
The Great ($425)
The Biker Boot
Want to dress up a pair of jeans? Toss on a silk PJ shirt (like this amazing tiger print one) and zip yourself into your fashion-girl moto boots. These booties will flatter you in everything from a lacy dress to a pair of leggings.
Anine Bing ($489)
When you have some wild sneakers—and this season, you need to have some wild sneakers—match them with a muted, fall-appropriate palette. Because while we’re pretty sure Rihanna wasn’t thinking “gray houndstooth plaid” when she green-lit the design of these shoes, we’re thinking it’s just the sort of civilizing influence a pink-and-yellow platform athletic shoe requires. (Charlie the terrier agrees.)
Fenty by Puma ($160)
You’re going to be cocooning more in the coming months, which means hosting brunches, cocktails and maybe even those out-of-towners you call family. And let’s be real, you want to look good with zero effort…so we recommend sliding on a pair of golden house slippers with your sleep separates or cocktail jammies. Repeat after us: “Of course I love fruitcake, Mom…”
Jill Burrows ($78)
