This streamlined bottom is exactly what the name implies--slim all over, but instead of stopping at the knee, it extends to hit mid-calf. While we love this skirt for work, it?s also a fresh, less-is-more alternative to cocktail attire.
A perennial favorite, we stole this one from the street-style stars (it’s all over Pinterest). Because it starts at the waist (your smallest part) and creates a tentlike silhouette, it’s a look best left to the over-5-foot-5 set. Look for this skirt in a lightweight fabric for a spring update.
We?re calling it. Slits are about to be everywhere this spring. But if you?re still having nightmares about Angelina?s ?mishap,? ease into the trend with an envelope skirt. A little less daring, this skirt looks like a wrap (or a sarong) but doesn?t reveal as much. We love it topped with a button-down or sweater to counteract the risqué feel.
Jutting out from the hip to form a triangle, the shape of the A-line skirt is nothing new. In fact, you?ve been wearing it for years. But this time around, the hem is just a couple inches higher. Also, the resurgence of this skirt in ?70s-esque fabrics like suede and leather is making it a heavy hitter. We recommend wearing it now with tights and knee-high boots.
You may have heard of the fit-and-flare dress. Well, that same concept applies to a skirt. Slim through the hips and flared at the hem, this skirt is the definition of flirty. It can fall above or below the knee, but remember to keep your top tucked in, otherwise things could look a bit disheveled.
Who’s excited for spring shopping? (Raises hand!) Who doesn’t even know where to begin? (Raises hand.)
Let’s take it one item at a time. First up, skirts.
The essence of spring, skirts are the first thing we reach for when the temps rise over 50 degrees. But admittedly, they can be tricky. (If your babysitter’s wearing it, it’s not for you.)
This season, we’re in a tizzy over the array of new ladylike styles that are popping up in stores. With everything from the pencil midi to the demure slit, our guide explains exactly what each new silhouette has to offer, how to wear it and when it works best.
Here’s to ditching the tights.
