You know you love the ease of slide sandals. (So do we, big time.)
But if you’re like us, there’s a sad graveyard of stretched-out sandals that you can’t quite get rid of in your closet. Now, however, we’re prepared to kick them to the curb for a handmade pair from The Palatines, designer of minimalist gems outfitted with a special feature to keep your foot in place.
Take our favorite, the classic black design ($220): It has a creamy four-inch slice of Italian leather covering the foot, with another piece for its sole, plus calfskin lining. The secret sauce is a smooth column of leather that’s placed a half inch behind the front of the strap--it holds your foot in position while you walk so your shoes don’t stretch out with every step.
The designer, Jessica Taft Langdon, has worked with Alexander Wang and Everlane. We’re totally in sync with her elegant minimalist vision: The textured gold slides ($225) evoke Biarritz-by-way-of-Brentwood, while this striped pair look perfect even with a column skirt ($220).
At first, the little leather thong takes some getting used to...but after half an hour, you’ll feel super-secure and steeped in style.
