Non-Embarrassing Ways to Dress for the Fourth of July
Wave the flag...just maybe don’t wear it
Big weekend ahead. You’ve got barbecues, parades, ombré ice-cream cakes and exploding fire to look forward to. Rifling around the back of your closet for that flag tee? Not so much.
Consider elevated outfit combos that still give a patriotic vibe.
MIX UP YOUR NAUTICAL STRIPES
Take a cue from Olivia Munn and buck the expected fisherman sweater and boat shoes. Instead, pair a striped tank with a patterned skirt (preferably in a poppy red) and turn some heads.
BUST OUT THE GINGHAM
Or follow Emmy Rossum’s lead and go with the trendiest print of the season--the all-American gingham. (Though, we have no idea what's going on with that purse.) If you haven’t yet snagged a vintage-esque dress, you can create the same effect with your dude’s J.Crew button-up (tied at the waist, of course).
PICK TWO OUT OF THREE
Hey, it’s OK if you’re not sporting red, white and blue. Two hues will do. Think: your favorite white cotton skirt and your tried-and-true chambray.
OR GO ENTIRELY MONOCHROMATIC
Then again, you really can never go wrong with all white. If you’re itching for some color, add a swipe of red lipstick. That way, no one can call you out for shirking your patriotic duty.
