We?re taking a page from our favorite rebel actress Kristen Stewart, who caught tabloid attention recently when she hit the Malibu sands with a girlfriend--wearing men?s underwear as swimwear bottoms.
Now that Los Angeles-based MeUndies has popped up on Abbot Kinney through April, we can try a rainbow of styles for ourselves. MeUndies specializes in women?s brief?s ($18) that look like y-front men?s briefs (but without the actual opening). It makes sense that Stewart and generations of girls'-school spring-breakers would wear them to swim, since Jockey modeled the first man?s brief, in 1935, after tight swim trunks.
Why not purchase a pair in black to wear with a white tee on the beach, and a striped pair to wear to hot yoga? Besides looking cute and tomboy chic, these styles (especially if we buy them a size larger) allow us a little more coverage than the usual tiny bathing suit bottoms. And they?re thin enough that we can wear them as actual panties--maybe under the super-comfy French terry sweatpants ($60)--after we?ve come back from the beach.
