A new skin-care center treats adult acne
As if wrinkles weren?t enough to contend with, we have to deal with adult acne too? It?s such a skin-care injustice.
To help right these complexion wrongs, there?s Acqua e Sapone Aesthetics, a new treatment center near Jackson Square that specializes in eliminating breakouts.
Owner and aesthetician Kimmy Williams, who suffered from acne herself, offers her clients skin coaching sessions ($160) before putting them through what she calls acne boot camp ($110 per session). Shunning dermatologists? one-solution-fits-all prescription (i.e., Retin-A), she takes a holistic approach to treating blemishes, surveying your lifestyle, assessing the possible causes of your breakouts and treating from the inside out by addressing everything from your diet to your shampoo.
During our recent appointment, she informed us that all those soy lattes could be contributing to the pimples on our chin (soy can increase hormone levels). Liquid foundation could also be the culprit, so she suggested using a mineral powder instead.
She then gave us an utterly delightful facial. The coconut-papaya enzyme mask was designed to gently exfoliate, while the sterilizing properties of the cranberry cream (she has her own line of products) helped to prevent future pimples.
