Alternative Apparel
Good-bye sweater, hello poncho

Unlike much of the nation, SF is blessedly not experiencing the freezing-cold polar vortex. And yet we still need some cozy outerwear to keep out the NorCal chill this winter.

Alternative Apparel’s alpaca poncho ($210) just might be the perfect solution. Made from ubersoft Peruvian wool, and in a modern color-blocked design with a touch of freewheeling fringe, it’s the ultimate warm fashion statement that won’t leave you sweating whilst ascending the hills (you can thank the breathable neckline).

Try it on in person at the brand’s new store in Hayes Valley, and pair it with Alternative’s notoriously comfy and luxe separates: Throw it over a long-sleeve thermal tee ($38) on colder days or wear it with this breezy lightweight shirt ($38) once the weather warms up.

The poncho isn’t the only draw, though. We’re smitten with this patterned terry pullover ($68) and the decidedly dressier silk crepe dress ($278). The shop is also sprinkled with a few choice lines like Current/Elliott and Lauren Moffatt. Edgy ring sets from Dream Collective and geometric bracelets from Odette round out a good Saturday afternoon shopping jaunt.
