Farmbox SF
A bounty of fruits and veggies from FarmBox SF

You can click your way to almost anything in this city--digital snail mail, a bang trim, bouquets on the fly. Now you can add locally sourced groceries to that list.

Two recently launched services deliver first-rate provisions to your doorstep so you don’t have to fight the crowds at the farmers market or Trader Joe’s. We tested them both to give you the lowdown:

FarmBox SF Choose from an assortment of themed baskets (juicing, Paleo) containing Bay Area organic produce and artisanal foods, or customize your own through FarmBox’s site (starting at $49). Each shipment arrives with recipes and helpful storage tips--remove carrots’ leafy tops before putting them in the fridge! Our fruit and veggie delivery included beets from Heirloom Organic Gardens and Asian pears from K&L Orchards.

AmazonFresh The San Francisco Fish Company and Nana Joes Granola are just two of the local purveyors whose goods you can put into your virtual cart via AmazonFresh. You can also shop for regular ol’ groceries (produce, dairy, whole grain Bucatini) for delivery to over a dozen SF zip codes. Request your delivery window and receive your items in 24 hours or less. After the free 30-day trial period, membership is $299 a year (the fee includes access to Amazon Prime).
