Eco-potions from Fat and the Moon
Lip balm holds a very special--even sentimental--place in our cosmetics bag. We swore by Lip Smackers in the ?80s (remember the Dr Pepper flavor?). During the ?90s, a tin of Rosebud Salve was a permanent fixture in our Prada backpack purse.
Our latest obsession comes straight from Oakland: Fat and the Moon?s Ruby Red Lip Balm ($12). A few dabs give your pout an enviable soft cherry stain.
The balm is made with all-natural ingredients: Beets and turmeric create the ruby hue, while essential sunflower and clove oils moisturize and smooth your lips.
It became our beauty gateway to the Fat and the Moon line: The handmade organic products are cooked up by Rachel Budde, who splits her time between Mendocino and the East Bay, where she grows many of the medicinal plants and herbs that make her potions so effective (and addictive).
We?re also big fans of the dry shampoo ($14), which shuns the aluminum powder commonly used in favor of an oil-absorbing (not to mention yummy-smelling) cocoa. Spritz on the sage and rose face mist ($10) before a meeting or mid-flight for a hydrating pick-me-up--the distilled rose geranium acts as a gentle toner too.
