As if Mondays weren?t soul-sucking enough, Mondays in August can be particularly brutal.
But that?s all about to change on August 19th when you attend Weekday Wanderlust.
The monthly reading series featuring Bay Area travel writers is the literary equivalent of tipsy globetrotting. Talented local scribes gather at Hotel Rex?s Library Bar (a most appropriate venue) to share their tales of far-flung journeys over cocktails.
Co-founded by vagabonding wordsmith Don George and writers Lavinia Spalding and Kimberley Lovato, Weekday Wanderlust welcomes both emerging and established ink slingers. At events past, Salon co-founder Gary Kamiya shared some of his adventures as a cab driver, offering a particularly hilarious account of a trek through the Tenderloin. And NYT best-selling author Laura Fraser recounted the tale of how she found her ?risotto guru? in Italy.
This time around, the lineup will star contributors to the forthcoming Best Women?s Travel Writing, Volume 9. There?s no need to RSVP (though you can via the Facebook page), and admission is free. Show up around 6 p.m. to order an Old Fashioned and chat up the writers before George kicks things off as the M.C. at 7 p.m. Each speaks for about fifteen minutes, and you can expect plenty of off-cuff witticisms.
Bon voyage, Monday blues.
