An e-boutique finds unique accessories for you
Sure, there's a certain satisfaction in scouring craft fairs and flea markets for one-of-a-kind baubles and bags. But as much as we want to support local designers, sometimes it?s easier just to wear that same J.Crew bubble necklace day in, day out.
Enter Unique Indie, a new e-commerce site that sells a well-edited selection of jewelry, bags and wallets from emerging Bay Area talent. Founder Janet Hu combs those fairs and indie boutiques for you and finds the up-and-coming designers whose wares you?d want to don.
Hu selects each designer based on his or her quality craftsmanship and production, with an eye for timeless yet standout items that will become wardrobe staples. The pieces range from the bold drama of April Reno's Beau necklace ($49) to these ethereal sterling-silver earrings molded from California seaweed ($162).
The designer profiles are one of our favorite features on the site--Hu interviews the artists and posts videos, so you get to learn about their background and inspiration. We especially loved hearing how Lisa Davey, the woman behind Holly Scott?s supple handbags, taught herself to sew leather.
The next time you see us, you can be sure we will not be wearing that bubble necklace again.
