If your underwire is visible through your shirt, try a bra without one like this bralette from Eberjey ($33), available on True & Co
When the tops of your cups are visible through your shirt, choose a bra with a shallow cut and tapered edges like Natori's Lotus Edge bra ($66), available on True & Co
To create cleavage with a fuller chest without going over the top, go for a bra that has padding along the bottom of the cups like this push-up from Montelle ($45), available on True & Co
Have loftier aspirations? Those who require more assistance in the cleavage department should try a bra with padding on the bottom and sides like this one from Affinitas Intimates ($45), available on True & Co
For those who are smaller on top, try a strapless with a tighter band and elastic on the sides like this convertible bra from Natori ($68), available on True & Co
We’ve been fans of the online lingerie-fitting boutique True & Co since it launched last year. And yet, certain sagging, er, nagging issues with our brassieres persist. SoMa-based founder Michelle Lam shares her insights into common undergarment complaints:
“I can see the outline through my shirt.” If you notice the underwire, it's too bulky for your size. Choose a bra with lighter underwire or none at all. If the top of your cups are visible, select a bra with a demi or shallow cut and tapered edges.
“My straps always fall down.” Frequent wear causes straps to stretch and slip. Rotate your bras frequently, tighten the straps regularly and consider investing in one with textured straps so they grip to your shoulders.
“I want more cleavage.” Even ladies with fuller chests need a little lift via padding on the bottom of the cups. For those who require, ahem, more assistance, try a bra with padding on the bottom and the sides.
“My strapless bra won’t stay up.” Gals who are tinier up top should go for a strapless bra with a tighter band and elastic along the side to keep it in place. For those whose cups runneth over, try a balconette bra or a bustier with boning.
