Dogpatch Wineworks
The tasting room at Dogpatch Wineworks

Don?t get us wrong--we?ll take a trip up to Sonoma or Napa faster than you can say ?Pinot Noir.? But occasionally we have a houseguest who wants to reenact Bottle Shock, and we don?t have time to make the schlep. Conveniently, a crop of urban winemakers have opened up shop right here in SF:

Tank 18 This brand-new SoMa winery sources its grapes from various small NorCal vineyards, then blends and bottles them in the building. Their monthly sustainable bottling events encourage you to bring old (rinsed) bottles and walk away with a refill of your choice. Open Thursday through Sunday; 1345 Howard St.;

Bluxome Street Winery Bluxome owns vineyards in the Russian River Valley and on the Sonoma Coast but crushes its grapes in the city. The last Saturday of every month is ?The Meet Market,? where you can pair wine flights with local foods. Open Tuesday through Sunday; 53 Bluxome St.; 415-543-5353 or

Dogpatch Wineworks Want to play vintner? Dogpatch?s private barrel program invites you to make your own wine. For inspiration, hit up the tasting room to try whites from Passaggio and reds from Pug Wine alongside the house label. Open Thursday through Sunday; 2455 Third St.; 415-525-4440 or
