Basecamp Hotel
The bed in the Great Indoors Room at Basecamp Hotel

Whether or not you hit the slopes (we personally prefer the après-ski activities), there are a few fresh attractions not to miss on your next trip to Tahoe:

Where to Stay: Basecamp Hotel Though the camp-themed boutique hotel in South Lake Tahoe has received press for its bunk-bed accommodations, we recommend staying in the Great Indoors Room for a more grown-up escape. A faux-grass carpet lines the floor, a canvas tent is draped over the bed and glow-in-the-dark stars dot the ceiling. (Starting at $129 on weekdays.) 4143 Cedar Ave., South Lake Tahoe; 530-208-0180 or

Where to Consume: Petra The owners of Uncorked opened this Northstar establishment just over a year ago, so you may have missed it last season. Petra offers a quiet respite from the village chaos, serving a selection of primarily boutique, limited case production wines and a menu of tasty tapas. 3001 North Village Dr., Suite 3112, Truckee; 530-562-0600 or

Where to Shop: Bespoke Our craftsman-loving hearts leaped when we walked into this Truckee store. It’s chock-full of clothing and home goods that have an “old soul,” as the owners say: blankets from Faribault Woolen Mill Company, cards from Sapling Press and jewelry from regional designers like Mark Ehrmann. 10130 Donner Pass Rd., Truckee; 530-582-5500 or
