Warm up in a local designer’s wool jackets
A quality coat that will keep the chill out is a wardrobe essential in San Francisco. But it seems like once you’ve found the perfect jacket, half the women in this city are wearing the same one.
Trudy Hodges has a sartorial solution: The local designer behind wool coat company Poppy von Frohlich creates a new style in two or three fabrics every six weeks. There’s often only one in each size (0 to 12) and once it sells, she retires the pattern. So only you and a few other lucky ladies will own that look.
A resident of the notoriously crisp Richmond District, Hodges knows the value of well-made outerwear. She crafts her coats with Italian wool and lines them with cotton flannel or thick satin, so you’re toasty and comfy. Produced in classic hues, herringbone and plaid patterns, they are the perfect compliment to a casual NorCal outfit.
Hodges used to take only custom orders, but she recently launched an e-commerce site so you can cozy up in one of her coats too (prices range from $400 to $700). The new styles are kept a secret until they debut, but you can get a sneak peek on her site by signing up for the newsletter. Orders generally ship within six weeks.
Your winters are about to get warmer--and better-looking.
