Immersive theater is huge these days. But have you heard of immersive dance? That’s what you’re in for at the world premiere of Soar, and the audience is part of the action.
Levydance’s newest performance is a surreal, dreamlike exploration of fate and free will. The stage is set like a blank canvas--black floor and walls, white stools and gauzelike scrims. And the 11 plainclothes cast members reveal themselves by breaking into crazy, erratic movement once attendees have been seated.
As the evening progresses, how you experience the 50-minute show is really up to you. You can choose which performers to follow (we went with the couple canoodling in their living room) or just stay put and behold as actors wander in and out of view.
Some things you might encounter: a group playing spin the bottle, old friends drinking at a bar or a private game of strip poker.
We don’t want to give away too much in terms of what to expect, but remember this: Audience participation is encouraged.
