The gym can be so boring. (The elliptical is starting to feel like a hamster wheel, amiright?) And on a warm, sunny day, you’d really rather be outside.

For a few months, why not ditch the expensive membership and head over to Hayes Valley’s new public workout space, which comes courtesy of the folks behind Basic Training?

Taking over an unused parking lot next to activewear shop Aether, the temporary station will have a 20-foot steel workout wall with monkey bars, climbing poles and plyometrics cubes for steps and lunges, as well as a smoothly paved open space perfect for agility drills. In other words, it’s basically an adult playground for circuit-like routines.

Although the community is encouraged to stop by and work out on their own, to celebrate the launch, the Basic Training team is hosting four hours of boot-camp-style classes on June 7, followed by an afternoon of food-truck festivities.

Ready, set, go.

June 7 classes will be held on the hour from 8 a.m. to noon; party until 4 p.m.; Cost is $10; RSVP here; Hayes and Octavia streets; basictrainingsf.com
