An app that lets you gift a round of drinks
Your old college buddy is moving back to NYC, and friends are saying their good-byes with drinks at one of your favorite tapas spots. But you?ve got a work deadline looming and you?re chained to the desk for the night.
Be there in spirit with Gratafy, a new-to-SF app that will let you send over a round of jalapeño margaritas (her favorite) from your iPhone, Android or iPad.
Here?s what to do: Open the app on your smartphone, select a restaurant and then pick the drink, appetizer, entree or dessert you want to gift. You can choose to send your treat while your friend is at the bar or opt for a gift certificate that she can use anytime.
Then you just enter your friend?s phone number, and she?ll get a text about your gift--even if she doesn?t have the app--with a code that the server will use to redeem the goods.
So far, 37 Bay Area restaurants have signed on. We'd be happy to be on the receiving end of the Conquistador cocktail ($12) at Coqueta or the bread-pudding French toast ($12) at Maven, but if those don?t tickle your friend's fancy, there are many other menu options to choose.
Salud to sending a special gift without even showing up!
